Week 2

Hello everyone,

I have been here for two weeks now, and am definitely feeling a lot more settled now I have got used to the Spanish way of life! It hasn't been a very quiet week in terms of uni - we had three hours on Monday, an hour on Tuesday, two hours on Wednesday and Friday, and nothing on Thursday as our one class was cancelled! We had to enrol on Wednesday, as it was the last day, haha, which was a big mistake! We queued for ages and ended up being in there for over an hour and a half! We had to provide all of our medical insurance, certificates, passport etc. so it took quite a while.

We have been to the 10y10 café and cocktail bar about 5 times this week, which is our favourite place to go - mainly because we really like the waiters! Especially when they call us guapas, haha! We have been there that much that the waiter came over and knew what we wanted without us asking! There is a waiter who we have nicknamed Jamie - we are too shy to ask him his real name but that's our aim before we come home!

When Niamh and I went to get a drink there the other day, we ordered a strawberry smoothie, which we thought would be the healthy smoothie we get at home - we got a shock when it arrived on the table!

On Thursday we took some bikes out for a bit and went for a ride around Campo Grande, which is a big park up by the train station.

We also went on a long walk on Saturday by the river which is near our university building. We found an outdoor gym which had all this equipment to exercise with! There was also a really pretty bridge which you could walk around and went over a big pond. I really enjoy just walking or cycling around the city as the weather is still really good! First thing in the morning its quite cold but from late morning the temperature increases and it gets to around 28 degrees each day. It then stays warm throughout the rest of the afternoon and evening.

We also walked past a café where there was live music going on! There is always something going on - quite often people get together and do salsa in the streets.

Today Gianluca came over from Salamanca - to be honest we weren't great tour guides as we didn't show him much of the city! However he got to take in lots of the buildings whilst walking from the train station to the flat and vice versa! We went for lunch at 10y10 so we did go out for a bit. He very nearly missed the train, we ended up trying to cram a half hour walk into about 15 minutes, so we did have to run!

Apart from all of that we have spent a lot of time with Callum, just having nights in and watching films and tv series! We have literally eaten salad for lunch and dinner every single day, as its healthy and that's all we can make! Uni has been good - we are starting to get into it, although the teachers talk so fast! I am taking a Spanish translation module, Norma y Uso del Español (history of the Spanish language etc), French and Italian. It is interesting to see how they teach differently over here  -we have already had a progress check so they get stuck in quite quickly!

Will write again soon,
Grace xx
